"The Glass Key award is a literature award given annually to a crime novel by an author from the Nordic countries. The award is named after the novel The Glass Key by Dashiell Hammett, and is a real glass key given every year by the members of the Crime Writers of Scandinavia to a crime novel written by a Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian or Swedish author."
This year's winner is the Danish crime fiction writer Jussi Adler-Olsen for his book Flaskepost fra P / Message in a Bottle.
Unfortunately, you won't find this book translated into English yet but maybe it will be arriving sometime soon.
Flaskepost fra P / Message in a Bottle is the third book in the crime-thriller series about Department Q. Please see the synopsis of each title below -
Flaskepost fra P / Message in a Bottle
"In a far corner of Scotland, at the police station in Wick, a bottle was forgotten in a windowsill for a long, long time. Inside the bottle was a barely readable note; the only two things that were certain were that the first word was the Danish word for HELP and that it was written in blood.
When the horrifying message in the bottle finally makes its way to the desk of Carl Mørck at Department Q - the Danish department for "cases of special focus" - terrible events begin to unfold. Carl Mørck and his assistant Assad find themselves drawn into a scary case of cults and disappearing siblings, whose parents have never reported them missing. They suddenly realise that time is running short."
Fasandræberne / The Pheasant Killers
"In 1987, a brother and sister are found brutally murdered in a summer house in the north of Denmark. The police investigation suggests that the killer is to be found within a group of young boarding-school pupils coming from some of the wealthiest families in the country. But the evidence is not strong enough and the case is shelved.
However; several years later the case and its files turn up on the desk of Carl Mørck, the deputy detective superintendent who is in charge of Department Q - the department for "cases of special focus". At first, Carl Mørck is convinced that it is there by mistake, but soon he realizes that something is very, very wrong.
Along with his assistant Assad he takes on an investigation that brings them all the way through the hierarchy of society. From the most miserable homeless person living at Central Station to the most powerful men at the top. The hunt is on."
Kvinden i buret / The Woman in the Cage
"On a beautiful winter's day the young, progressive politician Merete Lynggaard disappears without a trace. The media are all over the story with their headlines suggesting everything from murder and suicide to a planned voluntary disappearance. The police immediately commence a large-scale investigation, alas with no result. Merete Lynggaard has vanished from the face of the earth.
Not until Carl Mørck, the deputy detective superintendent who has been through a lot in his time, is put in charge of the new department for "cases of special focus" is there a major breakthrough in the investigation. Soon Carl Mørck and his assistant Assad are tracing a reckless criminal, who driven by hate has set up an insane scheme."
